June 14-23, 2025 - coed

OPA! We're going to Greece!

Spectacular sunsets, sailing adventures, amazing cuisine, and ancient history – this 10-day Greek adventure offers a combination of Greek mainland and island life that’s the best of both worlds. Get off the beaten path and avoid the tourist crowds by exploring the beautiful seaside town of Nafplio, tasting Greek wine in Nemea, trekking the Lousios gorge and visiting a medieval monastery deep in the Arcadian mountains. Then hop aboard our private sailboat as we coast through crystal clear turquoise waters in the Cyclades islands and soak up the sunrise over the Aegean Sea. You’ll explore endless hidden coves, quaint hillside villages, and unforgettable landscapes as you spend your days living the island life and taking in all that the Greek islands have to offer.

We’ll come together as a group of strangers, but leave with friends you’ll have for a lifetime.

We’ll be visiting all the off the beaten path highlights of Greece, including Athens, Nafplio, Nemea, the Arcadian mountains, and the Aegean islands.

Itinerary

  • Welcome to Greece!
    Airport pickup
    Transfer to marina

Upon arrival at the Athens international airport, you’ll be picked up by our driver, and you’ll be driven to the marina in Athens. There, you’ll meet our skipper, board the sailboat, and after a short orientation, set sail for the Aegean islands.

Once we arrive at our first island, we'll take a quick tour and get to know each other over a beautiful Greek dinner.

Some of the places that we have the option to visit on our itineraries are:

Islands of Kythnos, Milos, Kimolos, Serifos, Kea, Sifnos, Polyaigos, Dokos, Poros, Spetses, Hydra, Aegina, Agistri, and Moni, Hermioni Peninsula, or Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion

Sailing begins today, but the description is provided on day 5. Please note sailing accommodations below inclusions.

    Dinner included

  • Breakfast and light lunch on sailboat
    Swimming and paddle boarding
    Guided island tour
Dinner on your own or as a group

For the next 5 days, we’ll visit 4-6 different islands and over a dozen sailing destinations. The exact itinerary on the sailing part of the trip is weather dependent, as are the destinations. Each day we’ll be sailing to a new destination, which could be a different island, or a different part of the same island, spend time exploring bays, swimming, snorkeling and paddleboarding, and dock at the island’s marina in the late afternoon/early evening.

On each destination we visit, our guide will be taking you on an optional private, guided walking tour that focuses on culture, architecture, food and the history of the places we visit.

In the evening, you’re free to explore some more, try the excellent dining options on the islands and indulge in the nightlife.

    Breakfast and light lunch included

  • Breakfast on sailboat
    Road trip to Nafplio
    Fortress of Palamidi
    Lunch and free time
    Optional city tour
    Dinner on your own

Our day starts with a breakfast on the sailboat before we head back to the Athens marina to begin the mainland portion of our tour.

We’ll make a brief stop at the Corinth Canal and stop at the bridge connecting central and southern Greece to take photos of the Isthmus below before we continue south towards the seaside town of Nafplio, modern Greece’s first capital and arguably the most charming town in southern Greece.

Nafplio has a great number of attractions, including an island fortress, two medieval castles, historical museums and byzantine churches, as well as a great promenade that takes you to 3 isolated bays that are perfect for swimming throughout the year.

Our first stop is the medieval fortress of Palamidi that towers over the oldtown and offers panoramic views of the bay of Argolis below.

In the afternoon, we’ll check into our hotel and have some quiet time before it’s time to explore the old town. Our guide will take you on a walking tour of the city, visiting various sights, points of interest and viewpoints. The food scene is great in Nafplio and we encourage you to ask your guide to recommend places while there.

    Breakfast included

  • Breakfast at hotel
    Monastery hike

    Picnic lunch
    Travel to Vytina
    Optional dinner in Vytina

Our day starts with a traditional breakfast in Nafplio. Afterwards, we’ll drive along country roads towards the dense forest surrounding the Lousios river, a part of Menalon Trail. We’ll hop off and continue on foot on a trail that will lead us to the Byzantine monastery, “Moni Prodromou”, built on the steep rocks overlooking the river banks. We’ll get a chance to visit the interior of the monastery and enjoy some panoramic views of the gorge below us, before continuing our hike downhill towards the ruins of the ancient Greek city of Gortyna and the stone arch bridge that signifies the end of the trail.

There, we’ll have a picnic by the river banks before we continue our exploration at the mountain settlements of Mt Mainalon, Vitina, Dimitsana and Stemnitsa. We’ll have a stroll in the cobblestone streets, and if you’re so inclined you can get acquainted with Greek moonshine.

The village of Vytina is our destination for the night. We’ll get settled in our accommodation and walk to the village square for dinner. If local game, traditional cheeses and freshly picked vegetables are your thing, the food in Vytina is an excellent introduction to southern Greek cuisine, and it never disappoints.

    Breakfast and lunch included

  • Breakfast at hotel
    Nemea winery tour
    Athens city tour
    Farewell dinner

Our first destination is the valley of Nemea, Greece’s wine country. 3500 years of wine making history is reason enough to visit the valley. We’ll get shown around a working winery and indulge in wine tasting early in the afternoon.

Upon arrival at Athens, you’ll be driven to your accommodation and have time to settle in before a city tour. The Greek capital boasts a historical center that’s full of sights, world renowned restaurants and is easy and safe to explore on foot throughout the year.

You’ll partake in a private guided tour of the city center. The cobblestone pedestrian streets will take you past the Roman Auditorium, to the birthplace of Democracy on the Pnyka hill, for some panoramic views of Athens and the Acropolis. From there, the neighborhoods of Plaka with the Roman Agora, Anafiotika that feels like it’s stuck in the late 1800s, the National Gardens and the Kallimarmaro Stadium, birthplace of the Modern Olympic Games. From there it’s a short pleasant walk to the Parliament to witness the changing of the guards and then it’s on to Ermou street and the neighborhood of Monastiraki with its famous flea market.

At the end of the tour, we will have our farewell dinner at a traditional restaurant in the center of Athens.

    Breakfast and dinner included

  • Breakfast at hotel
    Airport departures

In the early morning, we’ll say our farewells, and we’ll arrange transportation for you to the airport.

    Breakfast included.

Accommodations:

This trip is for adventurous souls who want to share a once in a lifetime experience with new friends.

This trip is largely an adventure on a sailboat, with a large sundeck and a comfortable indoor galley for meals and relaxing. Living spaces, cabins, bathrooms and showers will be shared with other passengers. Sleeping quarters will be relatively compact, but you will spend most of your time above board in the open air—think of it like summer camp at sea! Each boat will have 3 shared bedrooms that consist of one bed to be shared with two people. If you come alone, you will be paired up with someone of the same gender based on compatibility. Roommate requests will be honored whenever possible.

Three of our 2020 sailboat models will be available for this trip depending on the final group size. The exact sailboat model we will use depends on the availability at the time of booking. Click here for a walkthrough tour of one of our boats.

During the land portion of the trip, we will be staying in 4 star boutique hotels, with 2 people sharing a room. In some locations, you may be sharing a bed in the hotel due to lack of availability of twin beds in Greece at nicer accommodations.

Why Travel to Greece With Me:

Greece is spectacular, but there are so many logistics and options involved in putting together the perfect Greece itinerary. It’s exceptionally popular, which is why we’re going to avoid the tourist traps, crowded and unreliable ferries, and see the real, authentic Greece. I want you to experience this magical place for yourself without the worry of planning out all the details and logistics.

You get to just show up.

That’s the whole point of doing this, right? You buy your flight and pack your own bags (don’t worry, I’ll give you a list!), but I handle almost everything else! My goal is to make travel as easy and seamless as possible so you can just enjoy your trip!

I’ll prepare you for travel.

That means preparing you every step of the way and providing information on everything from purchasing flights, Covid requirements, visas, currency, weather and safety, to the more exciting things like what to wear and fun things to do in your free time.

You get built-in travel buddies.

No more waiting on other people for travel plans that never come to fruition. The dates are set, the itinerary is made, and I am ready to show you the best of the best in Greece!

You’ll travel in a small group.

I prefer traveling with a small group (think 10-15 people max) who have time to really bond and get to know each other instead of getting lost in the crowd. I promise you’ll leave this trip with new friends you’ll have for life, including me!

You’ll make a positive impact through travel.

I believe in transformative and sustainable travel and that travel truly changes you for the better. By immersing yourself in a culture, you’re likely going to leave a better person than when you arrived. You’ll meet locals, have authentic experiences, and give back to those in need so your tourism has a positive impact on this beautiful country.

You’ll come home with vacation photos you actually like.

Say goodbye to the days of crappy vacation pictures! I LOVE making people feel confident through photos, and you're guaranteed to go home with Insta-worthy photos of yourself that you’ll actually love because I am documenting your trip every step of the way. Check out some sample photos of past trip participants

“Traveling with Laura to Greece in June of 2024 was an absolute DREAM! Laura has an incredible way of blending culture, adventure, education, and FUN. This trip was a mix of mainland Greece and island hopping, and all of the accommodation and meals were wonderful. Sailing around Greece was truly a once in a lifetime experience, and the skippers were also such lovely humans. The boat we lived on for the week was the perfect size, and we were able to see so many areas of Greece that tourists miss - I can't stress how perfect the trip was! If you're on the fence about traveling with Laura, take the leap. You will definitely not regret it. Can't wait for my next trip with Laura!”

INVESTMENT:
$5,249

DEPOSIT DUE AT BOOKING:
$750

I offer a free payment plan, so you can spread the payment across 6 months with a $750 deposit due at time of booking.

Additional payment due dates are October 15 ($750), November 15 ($750), December 15 ($750), January 15 ($750), February 15 ($750), and March 15 (remaining balance). All payments are non-refundable.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need a different payment arrangement. I look forward to sharing this adventure with you!

FAQs

  • You bet! I realize this is a large investment, so I try to make my trips as affordable as possible by offering payment plans.

There is an up front deposit of $750 at the time of booking due to the need to reserve sailboats ASAP. The remaining portion will be split into smaller payments.

You are responsible for making payments on time, or you will forfeit your spot without refund.

  • This entirely depends on your spending habits, but you’ll want to budget additional spending money for lunches and dinners that aren’t included, plus the cost of snacks and drinks to have on the boat.

I would budget $25-50 a day for spending money, plus extra money for shopping if that interests you.

You’ll also want to set aside money for tips for our skipper, guide, and driver.

  • Yes, you will need a passport valid beyond March 30, 2026.

If you do not have a passport, I recommend you start the process right away, as it can take several months to receive it. If you need assistance with this, feel free to reach out!

    VISAS

Come 2024, Americans and Brits will be required to apply for European Travel Information and Authorization System authorization and pay a small fee to visit Europe.

ETIAS is set to launch sometime in 2025.

The new program will require travelers from countries outside the Schengen Area of Europe to fill out an application before arrival and pay a fee of 7 euros (about $8) to enter any European Union or Schengen Area country.

What does this mean for future trips to Europe? Here's everything you need to know about the new ETIAS program.

More up to date details will be provided to you as your trip approaches.

  • All trips offered by Laura Ericson Group Trips are non-refundable, and we are unable to accept refund requests for any reason because trip funds are prepaid to our partners in the countries we are visiting and supporting. We have unfortunately had many travelers need to cancel their trips due to unforeseen circumstances, and the ones who booked travel insurance with trip protection coverage were grateful they did.

Travel insurance is required for participation in a trip offered by Laura Ericson Group Trips. While there are different types of coverage, we require guests to obtain, at minimum, post-departure coverage from your departure date from home to the day you return home, and with at least:

    • $150,000 in emergency medical expense benefit

    • $250,000 in emergency medical evacuation benefit

For maximum protection, it is strongly recommended that you purchase a comprehensive plan with trip cancellation coverage.

If you want to learn more about travel insurance and are looking for a recommendation, you can learn more about my travel insurance partner, Wanderwell, here.

  • I sure hope that’s not the case, but I also realize that life can be unpredictable, and things happen.

    All trip payments are non-refundable.

Filling trip spots is incredibly time-consuming. I am a small boutique travel company, and I unfortunately do not have the ability to refund people if their plans change. Your deposits go directly to my local partners, and they are non-refundable to me as well.

Due to the sailing portion of this trip, travel insurance is required (see previous FAQ for more details) and if you choose a trip cancelation benefit, it will potentially cover most of your trip costs should you need to cancel for a covered reason.

  • This is a land and sailing trip, and we will be on the go quite frequently in order to see everything this beautiful country has to offer.

We will be doing lots of walking while on land, and there will be one short hike in the Arcadian Mountains.

Our days on the boat will be spent at your leisure, swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, paddleboarding, and exploring caves.

We’ll also have a lot of down time in the afternoons and evenings, which will be a great reprieve from all of the activities we’ll be doing and a great time to reflect on everything we’re doing and seeing.

While we will be moving around daily while sailing, your accommodations on the sailboat will remain the same.

  • While this trip is very on the go (we’ve got a lot of ground to cover), most days have free time built in so you have time to wander, shop, and explore the cities we are in.

In addition, all planned activities are optional, so you are free to opt out at any time if you choose. The only exception is that you MUST be at our accommodation/sailboat when we are departing for the next location.

All that being said, this trip is designed to show you the best of the best of Greece, and all activities have been personally vetted by me to ensure you’re only seeing things worth seeing. If something isn’t generally liked by the entire group, I don’t include it in the itinerary and leave it for free time.

  • Wait until you get the green light from me to purchase your flights—I typically recommend 3-6 months prior to the trip, or as soon as I’ve finalized our group and arrival details.

I will be in contact with you regularly with reminders and assistance on purchasing fights, visas, insurance, packing, and more.

In the meantime, feel free to set up a flight alert on Google Flights to start monitoring prices. You will be flying in and out of Athens International Airport (ATH).

  • Due to the tight quarters of the sailboat, there are only 3 guest cabins available on each boat, with 1 shared bed per cabin. This is part of the adventure of sailing!

This is also a great opportunity to bunk up with a friend, but if you come alone, you’ll be paired with someone of the same gender based on compatibility.

Click here for a video walkthrough of one of our sailboats.

A single room supplement might be available for the hotels. Please email Laura to inquire.

For the sailboat, you would be taking the spot of another person on the entire trip, so a single supplement would be a significant expense. If this still interests you, please inquire with Laura.

  • Absolutely not! Most people come on group trips alone, and it’s the best way to meet people!

  • While most of my trips tend to be people in the 30-50 age range, all ages 18+ are welcome. We usually also have people who are 50+ on our trips.

Age is just a number, and it’s more important that the trip sounds like a good fit for you than your actual age.

  • We will have 6 people plus a trip leader and skipper per sailboat. If we have more than 6 people, our boats will travel together as a “floatilla,” stopping in the same spots and docking together.

We need at least 6 people to book this trip in order to proceed. Should we not meet the minimum amount needed, you will receive a full refund.

  • This trip provides you with the opportunity to actively engage yourself in sailing, whether you have done it before or not.

The Aegean archipelago, with its clear deep blue waters, is the ideal place to get acquainted with the basics of sailing and our skippers are always happy to show you the ropes!

  • We will be providing a variety of breakfast and lunch items for the group, and these meals will be self-serve (although we encourage you to prepare meals with your new travel buddies—it’s fun and part of the experience)!

Please note that lunches are considered light lunches (i.e. Greek salads and snacks) because we’ll be active in the water, and you’ll have the opportunity to bring your own food and drinks on the boats as well.

  • The sailboats are an adventure in themselves, and you can use this time to enjoy the beautiful views, sunbathe, listen to music, play games in the lounge below with your travel buddies, read a book, or just enjoy some downtime.

Each day we’ll be sailing to a new destination and spend time exploring bays, swimming, snorkeling and paddleboarding, and dock at the island’s marina in the late afternoon/early evening.

  • We will have electricity all times from solar panels on the boat for us to charge iPads, phones, etc.

Proper electricity to charge larger devices will be available when we’re docked at night, including CPAPs. You’ll just need an electrical converter, which you can purchase on Amazon for around $20 USD (I will provide links during orientation for a packing list).

  • Our sailboats are designed for a smooth journey at sea, and we’ll do everything to ensure you are comfortable. That being said, motion sickness tablets will be provided for anyone who needs them.

If you are prone to motion sickness, you’re encouraged to speak with your doctor about a preventative prescription for motion sickness before traveling.

  • Travel can be unpredictable, and we do our best to stick to the itinerary. That being said, travel also requires flexibility.

The sailing portion of the trip has a flexible itinerary due to the unpredictability of weather. Should we need to reroute at sea, we will find an alternative island to visit. This is the benefit of having a sailboat and not having to rely on ferries, which are notoriously rescheduled, late, or canceled.

  • Due to close living quarters and sharing a room with someone, plus the tranquil vibes of being at sea, the use of tobacco is not permitted on the sailboats.

    Vaping is allowed.

Vibe check

I have been running group trips for 3 years now, and I’ve taken over 150 travelers to to 8 countries all over the world. In that time, I have learned that while group trips are an amazing, life-changing adventure for most, they aren’t for everyone.

Here’s some general guidelines to help you determine if group trips are a good fit for you:

  • Like any travel experience, group trips require flexibility, self-awareness, and an open mind. Things don’t always go as planned during travel (sometimes that’s part of the adventure!), and if you can keep a positive attitude, have perspective, and stay open-minded, it will make for a much more enjoyable experience for everyone.

  • Group trips are highly scheduled and organized (that’s the appeal, right?!). While you aren’t required to participate in activities that don’t interest you, it does require you to be on time and respectful of others.

  • Traveling in a group means sometimes we need to do what’s best for the group vs. the individual, and that things need to be organized in a way that the group can travel efficiently to make the trip go smoothly. It also sometimes means sharing meals, accommodations, and transportation with your trip mates—this brings a feeling of community and allows you to bond with your fellow adventurer buddies. It’s like adult summer camp!

  • Group trips involve lots of personalities—again, that’s part of the appeal! While I do my best to ensure everyone on the trip is a good fit, you might not become best friends with every person in your group, and that’s okay! I guarantee you’ll make some lifelong friends, and I ensure you can learn something valuable from everyone you meet.

  • These trips are usually international, which gives you the privilege of learning about other cultures. Often that means things might be different from the comforts you are used to at home—that’s the whole point of travel! Being open-minded, flexible, and willing to experience life in a different way will make for a transformative travel experience.

Still have questions?

Want to scope out flight prices?

You will be flying in and out of Athens International Airport (ATH).

Laura Ericson Group Trips is not responsible for any costs related to flights. You can use this tool to gauge flight prices, but please wait until you get an email from us approximately 6 months prior to your trip to book your flights to ensure you have all of the information needed for booking. We recommend always booking with the airline directly and not from an online travel agency (OTA) like Kayak, etc.
