Single, Childfree & Ready for Morocco
Let’s celebrate our badass SINK freedoms in Morocco.
Hi, I'm Angela! Speaker, educator, storyteller, and global podcast host from Boston. As your enthusiastic elder millennial guide, I'm passionate about creating transformative experiences that celebrate the epic lives of single and childfree individuals through the power of adventure.
I believe that as single and childfree folks, we deserve spaces where our lifestyle choices are not just accepted but celebrated. Between societal expectations and the constant "when are you settling down?" questions, it's easy to forget just how badass and free we truly are. That's why I'm inviting you on this extraordinary journey through Morocco.
This Morocco trip is designed for you to take up space, invest in yourself, and connect with other SINKs
(Single Income No Kids) who understand this beautiful and unique lifestyle. While others get celebrations for marriages and babies, we're creating our own epic moments that honor our choices and freedom.
My hope is that through adventure, growth, connection, and community, you'll release any narratives about what your life "should" look like and embrace just how powerful you already are. Let's grab life by both hands and GO BE EPIC together in Morocco!
As the host of The Empowered Millennials podcast and founder of The Single Childfree community,
I've dedicated my life to helping people break free from the "shoulds" of society and make empowered choices to live authentically. After experiencing my own journey through grief and personal transformation, I discovered the incredible power of choosing your own joy and surrounding yourself with a community that shares your values.

Why Morocco?
Thank you so much for asking! I’ve got my reasons.
Desert Destiny: Trade your morning commute for camel rides across Saharan dunes. Warning: Stargazing here will ruin your backyard astronomy forever.
Medina Madness: Get gloriously lost in Marrakech and Fez's maze-like medinas. The shopping here is UNBELIEVABLE, and you will come away with one-of-a-kind treasures.
Culture Shock (The Good Kind): Eat your way through local delicacies, haggle like a pro, and discover why Moroccan mint tea deserves its own fan club.
Blue Bliss: See Chefchaouen for yourself! With its distinctive blue and whitewashed buildings and winding alleyways, you’ll be charmed and your camera roll will be full.
Sleep Spectacular: Rest your head in everything from palatial riads to luxury desert camps. Because who doesn't want to brag about sleeping under Saharan stars?

Do it scared instead of not doing it at all.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see a beautiful corner of the world with a fabulous group. The way you’ll interact with the Moroccan people and immerse yourself in their culture will stay with you—and them—forever. Don’t sleep on the chance to get out of your comfort zone.
Meet Laura
Hey all! I'm Laura, travel entrepreneur and your Morocco trip leader. After my divorce in 2017, I ditched my 14-year higher ed career to create the travel experiences I couldn't find myself. Being childfree, I've built my family through my own global travel community instead—connecting incredible humans across six continents. Morocco's basically my second home at this point (six trips and counting). When I'm not bargaining in medinas or chasing camels through the Sahara, I'm back in Eau Claire, Wisconsin plotting our next adventure. My trips skip the tourist traps for the real deal—the kind that'll have you texting friends at 2am with "you wouldn't believe what happened today" stories.

Dinner at our riad in Chefchaouen
We’re heading out on the road early as we make our way across the Riff Mountains to the stunning town of Chefchaouen. With its distinctive pale blue and whitewashed buildings and winding alleyways, Chefchaouen is a charming place with strong Andalusian connections. It was here that many Jews and Moors fled during the Spanish Inquisition.
We’ll stop for lunch at a beautiful poolside oasis, where you’ll get your first taste of Moroccan cuisine.
We’ll arrive to Chefchaouen by late afternoon, and you’ll have time to explore our beautiful riad before we join together for a group dinner.

Later in the afternoon, we’ll have lunch at our riad before we head out on our journey to Fez.

Breakfast at riad
Medina and souk (shopping) tour of Fez
Lunch in the medina
Free time
Dinner at a Moroccan family’s home
Fez, the cultural capital, is one of the most complete medieval Islamic cities in the world. Passing through the gates and walls into the alleyways beyond transports you back in time. The streets are just as they were when they were built in the 8th century, with high walls that protect the courtyards inside from the heat of the midday sun.
We’ll be taking a shopping tour of Fez, including Fez tannery (where leather is stained in vats of strikingly colored dyes), carpets, tile, pottery, and more.
After our busy day, you’ll have some time to relax at our riad before we head out to have dinner in a local Moroccan family’s home. They’ll prepare a traditional chicken pastilla, a true Moroccan delicacy, and share their traditions over tea. It’s sure to be a highlight of our trip and a night you’ll never forget!

Breakfast at riad
Depart for Sahara Desert road trip (7-8 hour drive)
Stops in Moroccan Swiss village and cedar forest
Lunch
Arrive at Kam Kam Dunes
Dinner and drum circle
We’re road-tripping today towards the Middle Atlas Mountains, where the landscapes will be diverse and constantly changing. We will first stop to visit Ifran, the Moroccan Swiss town that looks like it’s straight out of Switzerland. Next, we’ll encounter the cedar forests south of Azrou, contrasting starkly with the surrounding barrenness of the Middle Atlas. Here we’ll stop and feed the wild Barbary apes, and if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a baby ape.
Next, we slowly descend through the Middle Atlas Mountains and wind up in the palm oasis of the stunning Ziz Valley. The road will take us across Erfoud and Rissani to the desert of Merzouga.
We stop here to hop in 4WD vehicles to take you via off-road to our luxury camp—hang on, because this will be one of the most fun rides of your life!
When we arrive to our camp, we’ll settle in our tents (glamping style with running water and electricity) before we have a candlelit dinner.
After dinner, we’ll celebrate our first night in the desert with a drum circle, dancing, and some riddles from our Berber hosts.
It’s a night you will absolutely never forget!

Breakfast at Kam Kam Dunes
Tea with desert nomads
ATVing in the sand dunes
Stop at a local school to teach English to children and give school supplies
Lunch and swimming at luxury camp
Sunset camel ride
Dinner and drum circle dance party with Kam Kam staff
We’re up early to meet your drivers to go off-roading in the Sahara!
First, we’ll stop to visit a nomad family, who are living in a Berber tent and taking care of a herd of cattle, goats and camels. You will be introduced to family members and get to know about their way of life while enjoying the taste of a nice cup of tea.
Next up is a trip highlight: ATVing! We’ll hop on our quads and make our way through the dunes of the Sahara—a true once in a lifetime experience!
After ATVing, we’ll stop at a local Berber school, where we’ll meet school children, play catch, read books, and offer supplies to their local school.
Hopefully you’ve built up an appetite, as we’re heading next to a beautiful poolside picnic lunch of berber pizza at a luxury camp. You’ll have time to swim, relax in the shade, and rest up for the evening’s activities.
After a bit of downtime at our camp, we’ll meet for our sunset camel ride. We’ll head off into the vastness of the dunes on a camel caravan accompanied by camelteers as we watch the sun set from the dunes of the Sahara—core memory material!
After our camel ride, we’ll return to our camp for dinner and drums. You’ll sip mint tea under the stars as you wonder if you’ve ever seen anything so magical in your life.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Sunrise at Kam Kam Dunes
Breakfast
Road trip to Draa Valley
Stay in a local kasbah (Outdoor infinity pool, massage, and hammam available during free time)
Dinner
Leaving the desert behind, we’ll say goodbye to our new friends and head to the volcanic mountains of Sarhro, dramatic rock formations, and gorges of superb views. This area is well known for fossils, mainly ammonites, which are plentiful in the mountains. Reaching the city of Nekob, where we stop for lunch, we start seeing the first palm trees of the Draa Valley, a lush date palm oasis nearly 150 miles long. The valley floor is a verdant patchwork of fruit orchards, vegetable clops, rose farms and of course date palm trees of 18 different varieties.
Once we arrive at Kasbah Dar Hnini, you’ll have the afternoon to swim in the beautiful infinity pool, get a hammam and massage, and rest up from the past days’ activities.
We’ll conclude our evening with a poolside dinner.

Road trip to Marrakech
Lunch at Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou
Dinner at riad in Marrakech
Today is another road trip day, stopping in Ouarzazate, Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. Chosen as a location for Hollywood films such as Lawrence of Arabia, Jewel in the Nile, and more recently Gladiator, Ait Ben Haddou sits upon a lofty pinnacle of rock overlooking a river. Dating from around the 15th century, its importance as a trading post gradually waned, and today's inhabitants make a living from farming... and as film extras!
Next we drive through Tizi and Tichka, which will take us to Marrakech opening the landscapes to some breathtaking views of many Berber villages, snow capped mountains and green valleys.
When we arrive at our riad, we’ll have a dinner before we call it an early night so we can be up early for our morning adventure.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included
-
Early morning hot air balloon ride over Atlas Mountains (optional)
Breakfast on rooftop at riad
Free day to explore old medina and enjoy the best shopping in Marrakech’s souks (optional guided tour)
Farewell dinner
Today we’re up before sunrise to enjoy a hot air balloon ride over the scenic landscapes over the Atlas Mountains.
We’ll return to our riad for a rooftop breakfast, and the rest of the day is yours to explore the many sites of Marrakech.
Whether you shop the many treasures in the souks, enjoy the beautiful gardens of Jardin Majorelle, or just relax at the riad, you’re sure to find something amazing in Marrakech.
An optional guided tour will be available for those who want to be shown the highlights of Marrakech.
We’ll reconvene in the evening for our farewell dinner and a show at a local restaurant.
Breakfast and dinner included

FAQs
-
Hell no, you won’t! In fact, over half my travelers on international trips come solo, and they often leave with a whole new crew of friends.
My Morocco trips are practically designed for people to mix, mingle and bond over shared experiences (like discovering you're both equally terrible at haggling in the souk or riding camels after too much mint tea).
The beauty of our group is that everyone's there for the same reason: to experience Morocco's magic and meet cool people. You won't be the odd one out - we're basically creating a readymade friend group for you, complete with inside jokes and slightly embarrassing desert dance party photos by the end of the trip.
Some of the strongest friendships in my travel community started with "Hi, I'm here alone too!" at the welcome dinner in Marrakech. By the time we're watching the sunset over the Sahara together, you'll forget you ever came solo.
-
The age range on my trips typically lands between 35-50, but honestly? I've had 29-year-olds and 65-year-olds who were the absolute life of the group. It's less about your birth year and more about your mindset. If you're down for authentic experiences, can roll with unexpected plot twists, and don't mind a little sand in places you didn't know sand could reach, you'll fit right in. My travelers are united by curiosity and a desire to experience Morocco beyond the Instagram spots – age is just trivia for the "two truths and a lie" games we'll play over dinner.
-
Let's get real about safety in Morocco - this isn't your typical sanitized resort destination, which is exactly why it's worth visiting.
I purposely build trips around places that trigger your mom's "be careful over there" texts. These destinations are often misunderstood, with outdated warnings and sensationalized media coverage scaring away the tourists who stick to the predictable spots.
That's where group travel comes in clutch. Traveling with our crew, professional drivers, and local guides (who become friends by day two) gives you access to the Morocco most travelers never experience. I've personally tested every route, accommodation, and experience on this itinerary multiple times to ensure it's as secure as it is awesome.
That said, no place on earth comes with a safety guarantee - not even your neighborhood Target parking lot. Common sense still applies here. That's why I'll prepare you with specific Morocco safety intel before we go.
LGBTQ+ Travelers in Morocco
For LGBTQ+ travelers considering this trip, here are some important things to know:
Group Safety: Our Morocco trip is designed as a group experience with local guides and drivers. You'll rarely be without a Moroccan guide/driver unless inside accommodations or at dinner, providing an additional layer of security.
Cultural Context: Morocco is a conservative Muslim country with traditional values. While LGBTQ+ tourists visit regularly without issues, public displays of affection between any couples (straight or LGBTQ+) are frowned upon culturally.
Transgender Travelers: Our local partners have hosted transgender travelers many times without incident. The structured nature of our trip—traveling in a private van with me and a male driver throughout—provides additional security. Solo exploration is always optional, and you'll have the choice to stay with guides.
Privacy & Respect: This trip is about experiencing Morocco's incredible culture and landscapes, not about having to conceal your identity. That said, Morocco isn't the destination for seeking out LGBTQ+ specific venues or being openly activist.
I can't promise Morocco is the most progressive destination, but in the context of our small group with trusted local partners, travelers of all backgrounds consistently have transformative experiences. If you have specific concerns, I'm happy to discuss them privately.
Remember: The Moroccans we stay with have shown nothing but genuine hospitality to everyone in my groups - it's what makes this country so special.
-
This trip doesn't require Olympic training, but it's no poolside vacation either. We'll cover a ton of ground (literally) on this road trip to soak up everything Morocco has to offer. Expect daily walking through medinas and ancient sites, some camel-wrangling in the Sahara (they're basically desert ships with attitude problems), ATV adventures across the dunes, and an incredible hot air balloon ride for the early risers.
Don't worry though - our private transportation between destinations doubles as mobile nap pods. Those bus rides through the Atlas Mountains are perfect for recharging, journaling about that haggling victory in the souk, or just staring out the window wondering how you'll explain to people back home what it feels like to watch the sun set over endless sand dunes. This trip strikes that sweet spot between thrilling adventure and relaxation.
-
While this itinerary is packed (Morocco's too damn cool to waste a minute), I've deliberately built in pockets of freedom throughout. You'll have dedicated free time in cities like Marrakech and Fes to wander aimlessly, perfect your haggling skills, or just sit at a café watching the world go by.
And here's the real deal: nothing is mandatory. If your introvert battery needs recharging or a particular activity isn't your jam, opt out guilt-free. That said, everything on this itinerary has survived my ruthless vetting process. I've personally test-driven all these experiences and cut anything that wasn't worth your time or got mixed reviews from past groups.
This trip strikes that sweet spot between "holy shit, I can't believe we're doing all this!" and "thank god I have time to just exist in this amazing place." You get all the good stuff without the typical tourist bullshit.
-
This is one of those "how long is a piece of string?" questions, but I'll break it down for you.
Since most of your big expenses are covered in the trip cost, you're mostly looking at spending money for small extras, drinks, and shopping binges in the medinas (and holy shit, the shopping is GOOD).
I'd suggest about $25 a day for casual spending, but if you're eyeing those gorgeous Moroccan rugs, leather goods, or ceramics, you might want to bring more. The bargains are ridiculous compared to what you'd pay back home for similar items.
You'll also want to set aside money for tips for our guide and driver - these guys will become your best friends and will absolutely earn their appreciation by the end of our journey.
Pro tip: Having some $1 bills is super helpful for those random moments, like when you need to use a bathroom or want to tip a camel handler for getting that perfect desert photo of you.
-
You bet! I get that dropping thousands on a trip all at once isn't exactly pocket change for most of us.
Here's how it works: You'll put down a $1,000 non-refundable deposit to lock in your spot.
After that, we'll split the remaining balance into manageable chunks that won't make your credit card cry. Just keep in mind that you're responsible for making these payments on time - I've got a waitlist of people ready to pounce on any opened spots, so missed payments mean forfeiting your place without a refund.
All payments need to be wrapped up by December 1, 2025, which gives you plenty of time to budget for this life-changing adventure. And trust me, when you're riding a camel into the sunset across the Sahara, you'll forget all about the payment plan and just wonder why you didn't do this sooner.
-
Yes, you will need a passport valid beyond October 1, 2026.
If you do not have a passport, I recommend you start the process right away, as it can take several months to receive it. If you need assistance with this, feel free to reach out!
-
Look, we hope you don't bail on us, but we're not naive enough to think life won't occasionally throw curveballs at your calendar.
Here's the deal: All trip payments are non-refundable.
We promise we're not being jerks - we're running a small boutique operation here, not Carnival Cruise Lines. When you pay your deposit, that money immediately goes to our local partners (who also don't offer refunds), and filling last-minute spots is a massive time-suck that our small team can't absorb.
If you're worried about potential cancellations, grab yourself some travel insurance with trip cancellation coverage. It's like a safety net for your wallet when life decides to be an asshole.
(See the next FAQ about travel insurance recommendations if you're the "but what if I break my leg the day before?" type.)
-
Yes, travel insurance is required for this trip. You'll need at minimum the basic post-departure/medical coverage (usually around $50), but I strongly recommend a package with trip cancellation benefits.
While travel insurance isn’t the sexiest part of your trip, that $50 policy might be the smartest money you'll ever spend. I've had travelers have canceled flights, lost bags, and last-minute cancellations due to family emergencies.
Ask yourself: "Am I cool with setting fire to thousands of dollars if I can't make this trip?" If that thought makes you queasy, spring for the cancellation coverage.
I partner with Wanderwell for my travelers because they're not the typical insurance scammers. They actually cover what they say they will, and their claims process doesn't require a law degree to navigate.
Trust me, nothing ruins post-trip bliss like coming home to a stack of foreign medical bills or eating the cost of a trip you couldn't take.
If you want to learn more about travel insurance and are looking for a recommendation, you can learn more about my travel insurance partner, Wanderwell, here.
-
Wait until you get the green light from me to purchase your flights—I typically recommend 3-6 months prior to the trip, or as soon as I’ve finalized our group and arrival details.
I will be in contact with you regularly with reminders and assistance on purchasing fights, visas, insurance, packing, and more.
In the meantime, feel free to set up a flight alert on Google Flights to start monitoring prices. You will be flying into Casablanca airport (CMN) and departing from Marrakech (RAK). Alternatively, you can get a round trip flight to/from Casablanca, and either fly from Marrakech to Casablanca or Laura can arrange a driver for you (approximately a 3 hour drive).

Fun Facts
Morocco is famous for the world’s largest desert - the Sahara, mint tea, Casablanca the movie, spices, tanneries, and more!
We will be visiting during one of the best times of the year! The weather is warm, but we will avoid the scorching heat and cold nights. The highs reaching 80 and lows in the 50s at night.
The Moroccan dirham is the official currency of Morocco.

“Meeting Laura has legitimately changed my life for the better. I went on her Morocco trip & it felt like a dream. Having everything pre-planned & details figured out made for a stress free experience that gave me the opportunity to really enjoy & immerse myself in every moment. I not only learned so much about a misunderstood culture, but I learned so much about myself. I daydream about the trip every day & find myself looking for excuses to talk to anyone about it. I cannot wait for my next Laura Ericson trip!”

After leading over 230 people through 9 countries, I've learned that while group trips are absolutely life-changing for most people, they're not everyone's cup of tea (or shot of tequila). Before you dive in, let's make sure we're a match:
Vibe Check
You'll thrive with us if:
You can roll with the punches when things go sideways (because they will - it's travel, not a scripted TV show)
You're cool with scheduled adventures (we've got amazing stuff planned, but if you're the "wake up at 2pm on vacation" type, you’ll be missing out)
You understand the whole "strength in numbers" thing means sometimes doing what works for the group vs. your sudden craving for street food at midnight
You're ready to embrace the summer camp vibes - shared meals, group transportation, and maybe even a roommate who becomes your new best friend
You can vibe with different personalities (spoiler: you won't click with everyone, and that's totally fine)
You get excited about culture shock instead of freaking out when things aren't exactly like home (that's kind of the whole point)
Think of it like joining the coolest adventure club you never knew you needed. If you're nodding along to these points, chances are you're gonna fit right in. If you're breaking out in hives just reading this... maybe stick to solo travel for now.
Remember: Travel isn't about being perfect - it's about being open to whatever awesome weirdness comes our way. Because trust me, it will.
Still have questions?
Want to scope out flight prices?
You will be flying in to Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (CMN)
and flying out of Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK).
Laura Ericson Group Trips is not responsible for any costs related to flights. You can use this tool to gauge flight prices, but please wait until you get an email from us approximately 3-6 months prior to your trip to book your flights to ensure you have all of the information needed for booking. We recommend always booking with the airline directly and not from an online travel agency (OTA) like Kayak, etc.
