At Laura Ericson Group Trips, we're always seeking new ways to immerse ourselves in global cultures. The Journey Begins: From Curiosity to Connoisseur

Q: Tell us about your wine journey. How did it all start?

Sean: It began with simple appreciation and curiosity. After working at a wine shop in New Jersey, I seized the opportunity to take over 200 Main Art & Wine in 2021. Wine is like a global puzzle – the more regions you taste, the clearer the picture becomes. There's always something new to discover, whether it's an unknown region or a new varietal.

Wine: A Passport to the World

Q: As travel enthusiasts, we're intrigued. What can wine teach us about exploring the world?

Sean: Wine is a fantastic way to travel the world without leaving home. At 2 Roots, our goal has always been to let people globe-trot without stepping out of Eau Claire! It's an excellent primer for learning about different regions before visiting them in person.

Destination: Wine Country

Q: For our wine-loving travelers, which countries would you recommend for a wine-focused adventure?

Sean: France is a must-visit. I'd love to take a road trip around the country, exploring different wine regions. Georgia is another favorite – it's one of those places you might not immediately associate with wine. Don't sleep on Slovenia and Croatia either; they're producing some fantastic wines that often fly under the radar.

The Ultimate Wine Experience

Q: What's it like to drink wine where it's made? How does visiting a vineyard enhance the experience?

Sean: It's truly fascinating. You get to see the wine's style, the local culture, and climate, and meet the people behind the bottle. Wine is best paired with regional cuisine, so you're not just tasting the wine; you're experiencing the entire culture. It brings everything full circle in a way that simply can't be replicated at home.

A Wine Lover's Dream

Q: Paint us a picture of your dream wine-tasting location.

Sean: My ultimate wine adventure would be renting a car and driving through France, stopping at various wine regions. Really, I'd love to do this anywhere in the world – taking a road trip and exploring different areas, meeting local winemakers, and immersing myself in the culture.

From Novice to Connoisseur: Wine Tips for Travelers

Q: Any advice for our travelers looking to expand their wine knowledge?

Sean: Absolutely! Create your own wine flights and sample as many different wines as you can. At 2 Roots, we offer the chance to try over 100 different wines without committing to a full bottle. It's a great way to discover new favorites without the risk.

And while I always encourage people to travel the world through wine, there's no substitute for actually visiting these places. So please, get out there and travel! But on a Tuesday night when you can't jet off to Georgia, you can still explore with a glass of wine.

Hidden Gems and Fun Facts

Q: What's a hidden gem wine our readers should look out for?

Sean: We currently have a 100% Petit Verdot from Spain on tap. It's traditionally a blending grape, so finding a pure varietal is rare. At $15.99 a bottle, it's an incredible value for such a unique, high-quality wine.

Q: Any fascinating wine facts to share with our curious travelers?

Sean: What amazes me is how the same fruit – grapes – can produce such incredibly diverse flavors depending on where and how they're grown. I don't think there's any other product that's as diverse and accessible for exploring the world. Just yesterday, I had an empty wine box from Armenia in my car. It's mind-blowing to think about how those grapes were grown in Armenia, bottled, and shipped all the way to Eau Claire, Wisconsin. We're constantly receiving wines from places like Turkey, creating this incredible global connection through a single product.

Cheers to New Adventures!

At Laura Ericson Group Trips, we believe that true travel is about more than just visiting a place – it's about immersing yourself in its culture, history, and yes, even its wine! Our expert's insights remind us that every bottle tells a story of its origin, the people who made it, and the land that nurtured it.

As you plan your next adventure with us, consider how you might incorporate wine exploration into your journey. Whether it's a dedicated wine tour through the rolling hills of Tuscany or simply being more mindful about trying local wines during your travels, remember that each sip is an opportunity to deepen your connection with the world around you.

Here's to new adventures, new friendships, and new flavors – cheers! Gaumarjos!
